Knox Grand Prix 2013

Every year, there is a recumbent trike racing event called Knox Grand Prix (http://bridgebuilders.com.au/events/knox-grand-prix/) happening in the City of Knox, a municipality 25km to the east of Melbourne CBD. The event is organised by Bridge Builders, a non-profit youth organisation (http://bridgebuilders.com.au/), and sponsored by Knox City Council (http://www.knox.vic.gov.au/index.htm) and several local businesses. The race has various categories with a focus on school participation across Victoria.

This year The Knox School (http://www.knox.vic.edu.au/index.html), a local private school in Wantirna South, decided to participate in this event under the Hybrid Category for the first time and purchased an Integrated Power Assist System (IPAS) from Niubike. (http://www.niubike.com.au/documents/brochures/Individual%20Brochure%20-%20Integrated%20Power%20Assist%20System.pdf) After installing our IPAS on their vehicle – TKS Falcon, we worked closely with the Knox School team in their routine weekly training, including riding practice and vehicle maintenance from early this year.

On race weekend, 27-28 April, Niubike participated in the event as support screw of the Know School team. We were so impressed by the way team members supported and helped each other and their willingness to get involved and learn. As a rewarding outcome, Knox School team won Hybrid Community category in this six hour race. For more details, please see Knox School Newsletter – The Falcon (3rd May 2013 edition, Page 13)

It was a wonderful experience for us. Through our products and technic support, we helped the young people to engage in the event, gain knowledge, participate in physical exercise as well as develop social skill. For Niubike, the biggest prize from this Grand Prix is the smile on kids’ face.
